A state parameter-dependent constitutive model for sands based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion

Experimental data have demonstrated that a strong relationship exists between the state parameter and peak strength dilatancy characteristics of sands. This paper proposes way reproducing this behaviour using modified Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, which retains its simplicity while improving substantially modelling capabilities. The formulated constitutive model is calibrated for Nevada sand following well-defined procedure used in prediction four centrifuge tests investigating axially loaded footings. It shown proposed reproduces well both element more complex footing problems, demonstrating usefulness engineering practice. Moreover, simplified version does not require definition Critical State Line situations when aspect soil cannot be determined with confidence. such simplification results only slightly less accurate predictions than full model, simulating aspects response reproduced constant values parameters.
